Message for U.S. Citizens: Holiday Season Vigilance

Location: Croatia, countrywide

Event: Message for U.S. Citizens – Holiday Season Vigilance

The holiday season is a special time of the year during which we gather with family and friends to enjoy special seasonal offerings in and around Croatia. While this holiday season looks different than past years due to social distancing and other epidemiological measures, it is the time of the year during which there is an increase in theft and other types of petty crime as well as the potential for attacks targeting large public holiday gatherings, such as Christmas markets.

In addition, recent demonstrations against the COVID EU passport have drawn large crowds in downtown Zagreb and other parts of Croatia, some resulting in minor physical altercations. When in the vicinity of large gatherings, exercise personal vigilance and other safety strategies to greatly minimize your likelihood of being victimized this holiday season. Here are some additional tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:

Actions to Take:

  • Exercise additional vigilance at holiday festivals and events, places of worship, and locations with large crowds.
  • Review your personal security plans.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
